Seventeen soldiers from 158 (Royal Anglian) Transport Regiment RLC(V) participated in the 100km Van Ieper march in May 2010, taking in the historic cemeteries and battlefields of the Ypres Salient. Of note was Tyne Cot, the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world and the resting place of 11,954 soldiers of the Commonwealth Forces, buried during the Great War.
The routes were arduous, testing participants both mentally and physically. It was an excellent opportunity to develop physical robustness. The soldiers were also involved in the Act of Remembrance at the Menin Gate. As the youngest member of the group, Pte Spencer laid the wreath. SSgt Eyre said ‘The trip was made entirely possible by the grant provided by the UKRFA and as such we extend our warmest gratitude’
