On completion of the CIOR Congress in July, delegates from Australia, Canada, France, Turkey, the UK and the USA conducted a Battlefield Study of the 1915 Gallipoli Campaign, assisted by the Turkish Reserve Officers Association, TESUD.
The participants, ranging in rank from Officer Cadet to Major General, studied both the naval and land campaigns in some detail. They were able to discuss the lessons from both the naval attempt to force the Dardanelles and the subsequent landings, battles which are applicable to modern day expeditionary warfare in a coalition environment.
The study benefited from the input of historians from the UK, France and Turkey who were able to bring their own national perspective to the study. Wreaths were laid at each of the national memorials on the Gallipoli peninsular. 2Lt Andrew Pugsley from RMR London commented "It was a hugely educational experience as well as a very enjoyable three days".
