The IMM International Military Skills Competition is a one-day competition based in and around the British Base in Moenchengladbach, Germany. 52 teams, both regulars and reservists, came from all over Europe to take part, including a Greek Special Forces team who travelled over 1700km. D Company, 4 Yorks entered four-man teams from both their Sheffield and Barnsley TA Centres.
The 2009 competition was the 26th IMM and consisted of 12 stands over a 17km course. Tasks included a crowd control scenario, military knowledge tests, navigation tasks and a river crossing. D Coy 4 Yorks achieved high scores in the jerry can race and SAT range shoot.
The four and a half hour competition culminated in an assault course. At the prize giving parade the two D Company teams picked up 1st and 3rd in the Best British Team category. The Barnsley team won the Best International Reserve Team and were Overall Competition Winners. 2nd place went to a German Army Reserve team and 3rd to a Regular RLC team.
2Lt Alec Wood said “I was pleased with the result, but we had some of the best soldiers in our Company to form the team, so whilst I didn't expect to win, I certainly wasn't surprised.”
